Hi! I'm Rachel, and I am a Doula serving the Ottawa area. I have always loved babies, and found pregnancy and birth to be absolutely fascinating! When I became pregnant myself for the first time I really developed a true passion for learning everything I could about birth, babies, breastfeeding and all the options available for maternity care. This passion, along with my calm and caring nature drew me to pursue a career as a doula, so that I could share my passion with others!
I believe that every family has the right to feel supported in the way they want to give birth and parent. I can help you to explore all of your options, and understand the birth process as well as the newborn phase. I want to help women realize that they are strong and capable, so that they can feel empowered as they go into labour and new motherhood. I can provide physical comfort measures and emotional support to help you through the intense experience of childbirth. I will also support your partner, and help them to feel confident and involved in supporting you too.
With my postpartum support I can help your family adjust to life at home with a new baby (or babies!).
I am a bebo mia certified Maternal Support Practitioner. I am also a member of Ottawa Valley Doulas Association (OVD), and subscribe to their code of ethics, and standards of practice. Being a member of OVD also means that I hold a badge which allows me to count as a member of your care team at most Ottawa area hospitals. This means that I will always be permitted to accompany you to your birth and will not be counted as a visitor and subjected to protocols in place for family and visitors.
When I am not supporting families through pregnancy and new parenthood, I enjoy traveling, snowboarding, or spending time with family and friends. I also love to get crafty with sewing or crochet projects!
Whether this is your first pregnancy, or you've been through it all before, I can offer calm and caring birth support that meets your needs.
Bringing a new baby (or babies) into your home can be overwhelming! I can help you with whatever you need to make this transition a little easier.
